When buying squishy Advent calendar fillers, start with the space inside each compartment and the way the finished toy will be packed. A toy can fit behind a door yet still be difficult to remove through it. A reliable sourcing plan connects every numbered cavity to an approved SKU, packaging format and quantity.

1. Measure the usable cavity and the access opening
Ask your calendar packaging supplier for internal width, height and depth, plus the opening dimensions. Identify space occupied by inserts, retaining tabs and folded packaging. If compartments differ, label the drawing with the same numbers customers will see on the calendar.
Test the toy in its proposed individual wrapper or box. Do not base the design on squeezing an unpacked squishy into a tight space: the finished package may press against the door or become difficult to remove. Agree clearance with the packaging supplier using a physical sample, rather than assuming a universal allowance.
For fabric pockets or wooden drawers, also check how the packed item is held in place. A larger final-day gift needs its own planned compartment.
2. Build a numbered filler bill of materials
A bill of materials, or BOM, links purchasing to assembly. Use one row for every numbered position, even when a SKU repeats. Copy this worksheet layout and extend it to all positions in your calendar. Keep measurements in one unit throughout.

Specify whether repeated designs have fixed colors or an agreed random assortment. A calendar with 24 doors does not necessarily contain 24 different designs. Align the contents description and outer artwork with the approved BOM.
3. Shortlist shapes without assuming they fit

Year-round shapes can add variety when they suit the calendar concept. Compare the shortlisted toys in their actual packaging, checking whether decoration rubs against the insert, wrappers bunch behind doors or items move between compartments. 4. Convert calendar quantities into SKU quantities
Illustrative calculation: 100 calendars × 24 positions × 1 toy per position = 2,400 placed toys. If one SKU occupies three positions in every calendar, that SKU needs 300 placed pieces. Calculate each SKU separately, then check that the totals match the complete BOM.
List setup samples, reserves and replacement units separately from placed quantities. Reconcile the purchase order with confirmed inner-pack and carton quantities. Apply the minimum to each style, not to the whole calendar
For current standard squishy styles, RUIWO's minimum order is 12 pieces per style. Colors of the same style can be mixed when color is the only difference. Different designs, sizes or fillings do not qualify as a color-only mix; list their quantities separately for confirmation. Custom calendar boxes, printing and assembly have separate project terms.
For example, if a calendar plan needs six pieces of each of two different toy styles, the combined 12 pieces do not meet the 12-per-style minimum. Either plan at least 12 of each style or revise the component plan. Do not use spare toys as unapproved replacements for other numbered positions.
5. Agree the approval sequence and assembly handoff
Plan backward from the date the assembler must receive the toys and packaging. The critical sequence is: cavity drawing, packed toy samples, complete loaded calendar, final BOM approval, then production and delivery arrangements. Ask each supplier to confirm its own dates after reviewing the specification.
- Toy supplier: confirms SKU variants, packed dimensions, quantities and shipment labels.
- Packaging supplier: confirms the numbered insert, openings and final packaging specification.
- Assembler: receives the approved BOM, reference photos and allocation by delivery location.
- Buyer: approves one complete loaded calendar, checks every door and records the sample version.
A replacement SKU or changed wrapper can affect fit. Review the affected positions before accepting a substitution, and have the responsible specialists review the finished retail presentation for its destination.
